nullwest

Our Story

Nullwest was founded on a simple conviction: that exceptional digital products come from small, senior teams who care about craft as much as outcomes. We partner with clients who want collaborators, not vendors — bringing research, engineering, and design under one roof and staying accountable from first sketch to final ship.

Meet The Team

Dave Jimison

Dave Jimison

Director of Innovation

Dave Jimison loves inventing tech products and leading the teams that ship them. As Director of Innovations at NullWest, he focuses on building practical, human-centered AI and software systems.

Over the past two decades, Dave has led the creative and engineering teams behind a run of firsts for US media: Spotify's first Year in Review, Vice Media's first iPhone app, and MTV's first recommendation algorithm, work that's earned praise from the BBC and CNN, and scorn from The Colbert Report.

Dave holds a doctorate in Digital Media from Georgia Tech and has taught as adjunct faculty at The New School, Cornish College, and CUNY Staten Island. He currently teaches a course through NWIRC that helps Washington workers build AI skills.

In his personal life, Dave's artist practice spans robotic art, immersive installations, games, and live events. Dave was an Eyebeam fellow and resident, has been awarded a grant and exhibition by The Architectural League of New York and has exhibited across the US and Europe. His games have been exhibited at IndieCade, Come Out & Play, and Lowlands Festival in Amsterdam, and published in a few books.

He lives in Bellingham, WA, with his family, two dogs, a cat, and four chickens.

Scott Johnson

Scott Johnson

Director of Technololgy

Scott Johnson has spent most of his career as a founding or early engineer. As Director of Technology and a cofounder of NullWest, he works across mobile applications, backend systems, and artificial intelligence (AI).

At Apple, he did machine-learning research on Siri; at Promethean, he was lead engineer for its US division. As a founding engineer at Xembly, Scott architected one of the first ever AI executive assistants used by Fortune 500 companies. Xembly's products included multi-party scheduling algorithm and built its web application for calendaring and large language model (LLM) chat streaming, along with a Slack app and Chrome extension. Earlier, at the satellite-communications firm OCENS, he filed a patent for compact content delivery over a restricted-bandwidth channel — a method for moving email and data over satellite phones.

Scott built Decipher Healthcare, an AI navigation platform backed by AI2 House at the Allen Institute for AI, designing a multi-agent system for insurance, billing, and medical-records questions and building it to meet HIPAA and SOC 2 requirements.

Scott holds a bachelor's in Computer Science and a master's in Data Analytics, both from Western Governors University. He lives in the Seattle area with two dogs, two cats, and a hundred spiders.

Kat Pallant

Kat Pallant

Lead, Client Success Programs

Kat Pallant directs client and program work across digital, brand, and agentic AI. As Lead of Client Success Programs at Nullwest, she is equally at home in a creative review and a technical programming conversation.

Across fifteen years in London and New York, Kat has run large, complex programs. She spent two years at Google directing user-experience (UX) programs for AI, Gemini, and Trust & Safety Messaging, delivering 70-plus projects a quarter across 30 stakeholders. She has managed a $20 million portfolio for Colgate-Palmolive across nine countries at WPP and VML, built WeTransfer's US content studio from scratch, and started Dentsu Creative's first paid apprenticeship program, which placed 90% of participants in full-time creative roles.

Her work also runs to immersive production: the HP and Tron projection-mapping takeover of London's Southbank, an augmented-reality game for AMC's The Walking Dead, AI animation and avatar work with Meta, and a Honda virtual-reality program that put concept-car design in engineers' hands.

A certified Agile Scrum Master and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Kat has delivered work for Apple, Sony, Spotify, and Nespresso, on budgets from $50,000 to $5 million. She lives in Brooklyn, New York and watches Michael Jackson biopics every chance she gets.
